About ARNSW

About Amateur Radio New South Wales

Our mission: serving and supporting amateur radio activity across New South Wales.

Member organisation NSW-wide support Station: VK2WI (Dural)

ARNSW is a diverse membership organisation that supports radio activity for members across NSW. Many members also belong to the WIA and their local clubs.

Our role

Who we are: ARNSW supports radio activity for members across NSW. Many of our current members are also members of WIA as well as their local clubs.

Member support: ARNSW members pay biannual (or five-yearly) fees to help cover services provided to members and the broader amateur radio community.

Services and programs

Operational services: We provide regular news and information bulletins from our dedicated station, VK2WI at Dural. We operate repeaters and signal beacons on most amateur frequencies.

Member and community programs: We provide education, licence training and assessments, field days, Trash and Treasure events, and deceased-estate disposal sales. The Centenary Building provides a large and versatile space for meetings and other functions.

VK2WI coverage

Broadcast reach: VK2WI covers most of the east coast of Australia and out into the Pacific region.

Relays and shared content: We include content from the VK1WIA National News Bulletins, and our broadcasts are relayed by local clubs and groups to expand overall coverage.

If your club relays VK2WI content, thank you for helping keep the community informed.

Our history

1910

Originally formed as The Wireless Institute of New South Wales, ARNSW is one of the oldest radio societies in the world.

1922

The name “Wireless Institute of Australia (NSW Division)” was adopted, with the WIA operating as a federated organisation providing representation and services at state and local level.

2004

Following WIA national restructuring, individuals could join the national WIA directly, and shared services transitioned under revised arrangements.

The WIA (NSW Division) signed an Implementation Agreement with the Wireless Institute of Australia on 10 December 2004. ARNSW then operated as a separate organisation and now identifies as Amateur Radio New South Wales.
