Places of Interest

Kurrajong Radio Museum
An easy drive into the foothills of the Blue Mountains via North Richmond takes you to the Kurrajong Radio Museum. It is now open to the public and displaying an extensive array of Ex-Military and Commercial radio equipment. Much of the equipment is connected and in working order, also check out the rebuilt sound studio.

Ian VK2ZIO and friends have put a huge amount of work into this facility . It is intended to be open most weekends, but check first on 02 4573 0601. You can email him on  vk2zio@yahoo.co.au  or check out his new website at http://www.vk2bv.org/museum/  .

Peter VK2EMU found this interesting site for Ham and other interests, good multi 813 Tube PA.

New (June 2009) Seppo VK2SMA Check suggests checking out the site http://www.boondog.com/  which has some great ideas - look at the tutorial link. I had problems using Firefox but IE worked fine to access this site.

New (June 2009) For an interesting on-line Ham magazine go to http://ham.france.free.fr/crbst_17.html  although the mag is originally in French this page has the English versions for download as PDF © files (first one is about 21meg but rest are only 2.5 to 3meg) and just submit your email address to get new issues emailed to you automatically.

Brian VK2TOX just found a web site that you might be interested in, especially the "rev heads" (car enthusiasts) amongst us but also has some interesting information for Hams regarding vehicle installations and test gear.
http://autospeed.com/S_3/cms/section.html   and click on Tech Features to find nearly 1000 (yes one thousand) pages of hints and tips for car owners/enthusiasts. Especially interesting for Ham Radio people as it covers lots of electrical/electronics stuff. Pages on using tools and test equipment, building/installing various electronics kits, installing electronic gear in vehicles. Even full instructions on how to mount a full sized PC in your boot and operate it while driving. A page on external mods to an old PC PSU for the workshop, also a page on mounting UHF radio gear in the dash, lots and lots of stuff. The site seems to tied into Jaycar/Electus and a mail order site called http://store.voltelectronics.com.au/  many of the kits etc are certainly Silicon Chip projects, the site looks very SilChip, maybe developed/maintained by the magazine.
If you find a series of interest (Multimeters, oscilloscopes or "Making Things" do a search up in the top RH corner as there appear to be both older and newer versions of the pages on the site. Also each ":page" of items appears a little random as items are definatly repeated throughout the nearly 100 screens of articles.

Don't ask me how I found it as I was looking for some woodworking plans for workshop equipment and just "dropped" into the site. Now if I could just find the site I located late one night on a very nice parametric audio equalizer (and thought I had saved) I would be very happy.
Happy wandering and make sure you have space on your drive to save the pages, "cause there are lots of them.

Some more URL's to have a look at, thanks Ashley.

Ashley has a "thread" running on www.austech.info in the "Electronics" section under the title of "PICs for newbies" on writing code for PICs, looks good. Also lots of other neat stuff on the same site

Automated "Radio Prediction Service"

The Mid North Coast Amateur Radio Groups web site now features a new automated radio prediction service. This is very easy to use and it clearly informs you as to what bands are open and closed and weather it is day or night for the best operation. Simply go to www.mncarg.org  and find this great service on the front page.

So now you will know what frequency to pick for those all important contacts.

The web site has also recently had the links page and photo galleries updated with an expanded range. The Amateur Video section is growing by the day and the links to other amateur radio societies around the world are found here as well.

So !! What is a "BLOG"

A blog is your easy-to-use web site, where you can quickly post thoughts, interact with people, and more. All for FREE. Go to this site and set one up http://www.blogger.com/start at least this is what it offers, I have not tried it yet.

" 99HOBBIES "

Talking about "Blogs", this is the name of a great site I just found. It is dedicated to bringing our attention to the extra interests that Hams are involved in, check out http://www.99hobbies.com/ it is loaded with 10-15min talks (mp3 files you play on line) of Hams talking about their "other" hobbies. Great to just sit back and listen to.
