Sorry, it has been some time since a Newsletter has been issued, it is not a shortage of material as we have lots of stuff "on the boil", but simply lack of time. Your scribe has been a ARNSW Councilor for the past few years. this along with other commitments makes the days very short. There is however another issue being prepared and hopefully available shortly.

"Homebrew" Project Information

We have a number of Projects under development and hope to have them available as kits in the near future. Currently (April 09) we are working on a Digital RF Power Meter (using an AD8307 in the front end, a HV DC Probe based on Drew VK2XU's project and a switched step RF Attenuator based on the perennial ARRL Handbook project.

The following projects have been very popular :

HF 1:1 Choke Balun (also available as a kit) usable at full legal power (Australia)
                              Instructions and list of materials.........Kit_1_to_1_HF_Balun_2007-02-28.pdf
RF Inductance Bridge utilizing an Xtal Osc and bridge circuit with a small meter as balance indicator
                              Instructions and list of materials.........Kit_RF_Inductance_Bridg_XtalOsc2Terminal.pdf

We don't currently (April 09) has any kits made up for the above projects, however can do so at fairly short notice. To make the kits affordable we need to order parts for 5 to 10 kits, so if you mates are interested why not get them to order a kit as well. This is a very usefull kit using a good quality Neosid ® torroid.
Although we have had plenty of interest in the Inductance Bridge, quite honestly we have not had much call for the kits as the parts can be found in most peoples "junk" boxes, with a meter and box scavanged from an old project. The project can even be housed in a box made out of sections of PCB rather than a PVC mini box, as it really should be shielded, especially if you want to use the oscilator as a signal source for other uses. Even the meter can be replaced by a transistor and LED as per Drew VK2XU's projects. Some of our members have used an Oscilator Block off a PC motherboard followed by an LC filter, instead of the discrete circuit shown. In fact looks like it is time to revisit this project and update it with some of those options.

Please note the "Kits" are not a business enterprise, it is simply an effort to help those not so well placed to source parts an opertunaity to build the projects. Parts pickup and packaging is all done by volunteers, any "profits" are usually well absorbed by dispatch costs and support.

All being well, we should shortly have Kits of the new projects, keep an eye on this page and the Newsletters.
