Orange & Districts Amateur Radio Club

Updated 2008-06-29
Meetings

The Club is located in the Orange district of NSW. Meetings are held on the first Friday of each month (except January) . At the usual venue, the RAAF building, 64 Warrendine St, Orange. Just look for the big missile in the front yard. Meetings start at 7:30pm, all visitors and members are welcome.

Anyone interested in radio &/or electronics is quite welcome. A free light supper at the end of the meeting with an odd yarn or two.
Check out the Clubs web site for some good Homebrew projects, including a 2m/70cm antenna with duplexer which can also be used for reception from 100MHz to 1GHz. There is also a very nice setup for a portable repeater station.

Mt Canobolas “FRED” Repeater
For many years the Oldest Repeater in Australia has been very sick. The original FRED was on 146.7 / 146.1MHz, "FRED" (short for Flamin’ Ridiculous Electronic Device) was the first amateur repeater in Australia. It came on air in the early 1960’s.
This repeater has been suffering from interference on the receive frequency and has been either off air or been severely down graded on the receive side for the last 8 to 10 years. The Orange and District Amateur Radio Club wish to advise that the Mt Canoblas repeater otherwise know as FRED, has changed frequency.FRED is back with new frequencies of 147.025 / 147.625 MHz. The coverage is back to the days we new many years ago. Contacts have been made with Parkes & Dubbo from mobiles and also to a Wagga Wagga home station. All amateurs in range are very welcome to use the repeater direct or via the Echo Link connection.
The old frequency will now be used for an “in town repeater” for Orange, thus keeping the new frequency for the oldest DX repeater in Australia.
(Advised by Phil VK2FIL President ODARC and Robert VK2ZRJ Repeater Officer for ODARC.)

Meeting
Visitors are always made very welcome at the club’s monthly general meetings at 2pm on the first Saturday of each month, and at the Friday night gathering at 7pm on the evening of the fourth Friday of each month. The new venue for all these meetings is the SES Building in Central Road, Port Macquarie The new comfortable airconditioned venue is proving to be very popular.

Club 2m Repeater
The club conducts two nets on the 146.7 MHz two metre repeater each week. At the July monthly general meeting it was decided that effective immediately, the midweek nets will again be run on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm. These nets had been moved to Tuesday nights but now that the club has installed a two metre FM transceiver in the SES building, the club station VK2BOR will be activated by members during the SES Wednesday training nights as net control for the mid week net. The second net is held on Sunday mornings at 8:30 am. All stations who are able to access the repeater are invited to participate in the nets.
