The Orange & District Amateur Radio Club will hold its final meeting for the year this coming Friday, but at a different venue. The meeting on Friday the 4th of December will be held at the SES building which is located at the northern end of McLachlan Street, near the show ground. The meeting will start at 7.30pm. The guest speaker will be Kim VK2ASY who will be presenting a lecture and demonstration of APRS using amateur radio equipment. There will also be a short practical session on map reading.   At the November meeting of the Club, David VK2JDS presented a talk on UHF techniques and his practical experiments with moon-bounce on 1296 MHz.   Mark Friday the 4th of December in your diary as this will be Kim’s talk on APRS and amateur radio. Don’t forget the change of venue to the SES building in McLachlan Street (near the show ground).      There is no scheduled meeting for January, but the February meeting will be one nobody should miss. Bob Paton VK2ABP will be presenting a lecture on his 12 months experience in Antarctica. More details later, but mark the date – 5th February - in your diary now!   The Orange & District Club net is held each Sunday morning on the “FRED” 2-metre repeater at about 11am and follows the VK2 broadcast.   Further information about the Club and its activities are available from the Secretary, Orange & District ARC, PO Box 1065, Orange NSW 2800 or at www.odarc.org.    Advised by Bruce VK2DEQ, Vice-President, Orange & District ARC. The Oxley Region Amateur Radio Club Inc. The next meeting of the Oxley Region Amateur Radio Club, will be the December monthly general meeting at 2pm this Saturday, the 5th of December, in the SES Building in Central Road, Port Macquarie. There will be a short business meeting followed by a presentation by Bruce Walker VK2HOT on QSL-ing. Bruce will explain why and how to confirm your significant contacts. Come along and learn more about roles of the traditional QSL card and the new electronic means of sending a QSL. You might already have e-QSL cards already waiting for your attention! The VK2RPM UHF repeater has now been restored to service on its original frequency of 438.525 MHz. Access to this repeater requires a 123 Hertz CTCSS sub-audible tone. It has been necessary to implement the CTCSS facility because the site still suffers intermittent interference on the UHF repeater input frequency. The VK2RPM 146.7 MHz 2 metre repeater failed last Monday and it was restored on Wednesday during the planned trip to the site to re-install the UHF repeater. Visitors are always made very welcome at the club’s monthly general meetings at 2pm on the first Saturday of each month, and at the Friday night gathering at 7pm on the evening of the fourth Friday of each month. The venue for all these meetings is the SES Building in Central Road, Port Macquarie. Please note that there will not be the usual Friday night gathering at the SES Building in December this year though as the 4th Friday in December is the 25th which is Christmas Day. There will be a monthly general meeting at 2pm on Saturday the 2nd of January 2010. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are holidaying in Port Macquarie and surrounds to meet the local amateurs. Please contact the club via PO Box 712 Port Macquarie NSW 2444 if you are interested in attending Foundation Licence or Standard Licence training courses in Port Macquarie and Wauchope.
