We are looking at staging a number of DX trips across Australia over the next 18 months with the intention of setting up HF radio sites over long weekends and a long trip with a four week travelling expedition to a number of destinations as part of the 100 year celebration of WIA NSW. If you want to be part of an expedition or a support site or can assist in some other way please get in touch. These trips will need a team of dedicated people if they are to be successful. If you are an F call, a Full call or somewhere in between then this is the chance of a lifetime. We can’t do it without help so we would be interested to hear from anyone who would like to participate. If you would like to be part of fun then call Beth VK2AO on 0413155531. It’s Birthday Month at the Illawarra amateur Radio Society, and there’s so much happening. Sixty years ago under the club name of, ‘The Wollongong Amateur Radio Society’ our club call sign was issued. The Licence VK2AMW was issued as an experimenters licence on the 10th June 1948. This has been the clubs call sign since that time. To commemorate this issue, the ACMA has granted special call sign VI2AMW60 which the club will use this month as part of the birthday celebrations. There has been a roster drawn up to allow all club members the opportunity to participate and use the special event call. If you are a current financial club member and haven’t received a position on the roster, contact the club President, Tony VK2TS by phone or email. Details are on the web. Stand by for the fun and let the dog pile begin. The original club has come a long way from it’s single band H.F. club station, to the modern day club operating 12 repeaters over 5 bands. There has been a correction to some special event dates. The 60th anniversary dinner at the Illawarra Master Builders Club is being held on the 28th June at 6.30pm not the date as announced in the coming events segment a few weeks ago. The second technical workshop has had a change of date to accommodate the long week. It is now being held on the Sunday 15th June at Unit 2 / 4 Mineral Road, Oak Flats commencing at 10am. The workshop is open to all amateurs or prospective amateurs, no matter what class of license you hold. In this workshop we will be constructing a “Differential time of arrival” radio direction finding fox hunt unit. Whether you are an experienced kit builder or have never picked up a soldering iron before come along have lots of fun, and take home a working project. No thongs or open shoes allowed. Kits of parts will be available to purchase at cost on the day. A sausage sanga lunch will be available at a “friend of the family” price. You will need to book for the event, see the web site for details. The Knight’s Hill 70cm repeater is now back online with a CTCSS sub tone of 123 Hz for access. This has been necessary due to LIPD’s interference. This now means all the IARS 70cm analogue repeaters now require sub tone access. The club monthly newsletter “The Propagator” is now available for download from the clubs web site. It’s jam packed with news stories, projects, and useful information. Jump online and download your copy now. Don’t forget tickets can still be obtained for the anniversary dinner, telephone Mavea [pronounced may var] VK2HUG on 02 4297 6065.
