Fishers Ghost Amateur Radio Club
- 2010 Scout
Jamboree 4th to 14th January 2010. Notice to all clubs, particularly Sydney clubs. The Fishers Ghost Amateur Radio Club would like to advise that Scouting Australia’s next Jamboree is to be held in January 2010 at Cataract Scout Park and is commonly referred to as “AJ2010”. Why are Fishers Ghost advising of the Jamboree? – well, it’s because they are the caretakers of the Amateur Radio Shack at Cataract Scout Park. As far as they know Cataract Scout Park is the only Australian Scout Park to have a dedicated Amateur Radio Building, equipment and antennae. However if you know of any other scout parks in Australia that have a dedicated Radio Shack, then please let them know. They have been advised that there are at least 10,000 registrations for the Jamboree as well as over 3000 Scout Leaders who will be attending and the AR component will be an elective activity, so they expect to only have a portion of those numbers. The dates for the Jamboree are January 4 to 14 with set up over the preceding weekend. They expect to run all bands from 80M to 70cm, satellite, simple foxhunts, Morse code between onsite venues, etc, with general activity throughout the day. Night operations will be for Licenced Amateur scouts and leaders and FGARC members will be covering the evenings and local security. Fishers Ghost is seeking expressions of interest from Clubs whose members would be willing to assist during the day time to run the Radio component of the Jamboree. A half day, or a day, or two, would be a great help. Their intention is to generate interest within the Scout ranks so they can study for the Foundation Licence when they get home, no matter which State they come from. If you can help out, can you please email the President, Wal Kelly on vk2zwk@wia.org.au or telephone 02 4626 8423 and let him know of your interest. Advised by Wal VK2ZWK. |

The Hellenic Amateur Radio Association.
- Norfolk Island DX'Pedition The Hellenic Amateur Radio Association of Australia conducted the VK9NI and the VK9IR DX'Pedition to Norfolk Island between the 19th and the 29th of July. Team leader, Tommy VK2IR, reports that a great time was had by all, with a lot of laughs and beers with the locals. On their arrival customs knew who they were, as the local Island news had a write up about the DX'Pedition. The team really appreciated all the support it received while on the island and via email's on their return back to Australia. The DX'Pedition was a great success with over 12000 contacts across all bands from 160 to 10mtrs. The website also had over 44000 hits in the 7days. A great effort for 5 and a half days of operating as they had to pack the antenna farm up which took up the final day and a half. Five members of the team also operated in the RSGB IOTA contest using Tommy's VK9IR call with some 650 contacts made over the 24hrs. The club is holding a video and photo night on Tuesday the 18th of August at the club house. St.George sailing club, 2 Riverside Dr Sans Souci at 7pm. All are welcome. For more information contact Tommy on 0413 005 511 or check the clubs web page on www.haraoa.com . The video of the DX'pedition will be ready soon, and look out in most magazines for the write up which has just been completed. The next trip will be Broughton Island OC-212 in late 2009. Advised by Tommy VK2IR.(President HARAOA) |
